Launch notification list · Last updated: August 2026

What this covers

This notice applies to diasporasearch.org while DiasporaSearch is in pre-launch, and to the email address you share to join our launch notification list or to contact us about supporting the project. It does not cover the DiasporaSearch product, which is not open yet. We will publish full policies when it launches.

Who we are

This site is operated by The Diaspora Academy Foundation (“the Foundation,” “we,” “us”). For any question about your information, email web@diasporasearch.org.

What we collect

  • Your email address: when you submit it to be notified about the launch (and your name, only if you include it in a message to us).
  • Basic technical data: such as your IP address and the time of your request, which our systems log to operate the site and prevent abuse. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Why we use it

We use your email address only to notify you when DiasporaSearch launches, to share occasional pre-launch updates, and to respond if you write to us, on the basis of your consent, which you give by signing up and can withdraw at any time. We process basic technical data, such as your IP address, to keep the site secure and prevent abuse, on the basis of our legitimate interest in protecting the service.

Who processes it

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate the list. They act as our processors under contract, may use your information solely to provide these services on our instructions, and are:
  • an email service provider that securely stores the list and sends our messages on our behalf; and
  • a cloud hosting provider that serves this website.

How long we keep it

We keep your email until you unsubscribe or until we no longer maintain the launch list. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. Subject to applicable law, you also have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to our use of it, to receive a copy in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect any processing we carried out before you withdrew it. To exercise any of these, email web@diasporasearch.org.

International transfers

Our service providers are based in the United States, so your information is transferred to and processed there. Where required, we rely on your consent and on appropriate safeguards for that transfer. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.

Complaints

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area and believe we have not handled your personal data properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. We would welcome the chance to resolve your concern first, so please consider contacting us at web@diasporasearch.org before you do.

Children

This site is not directed to anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

We may update this notice as we prepare for launch, and we will change the date above when we do.
